May is a 4-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier surrendered to a local shelter because the owner was moving to a place that didn't permit dogs. Having been an outside dog for most of her life, she tends to be a bit fearful of people at first, but quickly warms up to them and then craves cuddling and attention.She is a lovely, low-energy, super-affectionate dog who loves tummy rubs. She has not learned many commands yet, but her foster is working with her on them and helping her to master housebroken skills. She is playful with other dogs and is reported to be OK with cats, although she has not been formally tested with them yet.May is available for adoption now that she is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, and microchipped. She is a healthy and happy dog who is looking for a home that will give her the training, love, and attention that she needs to be a great family dog. ADOPTION PROCESS After finding a cat or dog that you are interested in, you'll need to complete an adoption application either online (https://henricohumane.org) or at an adoption stand. An adoption coordinator will review your application to ensure your situation matches the needs of the animal you're interested in. If completing an application online, please note, every question must be answered on the application for it to be reviewed by an adoption coordinator. As part of the review process, we'll request references. Because we are an all-volunteer organization, it may take up to 48 hours for an adoption coordinator to contact you. ADOPTION FEES $100 for a cat or kitten$150 for an adult dog $200 for a puppy (under 1 year of age) The adoption fee covers the cost of shots, spay/neuter, microchipping and worm/flea treatments.Shelter locationAdoption stands are held on Saturdays at Petco Short Pump (Next to Trader Joe's) minus major holiday weekends.
